about me

Hi, I am Shruti Gosain. I am a graduate student pursuing Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with a focus on Data Science and Machine Learning. I'm passionate about analyzing, managing, and visualizing data.
I like to be a bridge between raw data and the valuable information it holds. I enjoy deciphering what the data is trying to tell us and turning it into something that drives decision making.

Beyond coding and work, you'll mostly find me outdoors playing football and swimming. I also enjoy sketching, watching Anime, enjoying sunsets, hiking and working out. I strongly believe in the importance of diverse experiences beyond studying because learning comes from all aspects of life. I thrive on exploring new things, constantly seeking opportunities to learn and grow in every possible way!

Leadership and Volunteering Experience

Volunteer - Education Justice Project (2024)

EJP is a program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign that helps people in prison get an education. They've been teaching courses at the Danville Correctional Center but they do more than just classes. They also make guides to help people get back into society after being in prison. They also hold events for the community and give scholarships to people affected by prison in the U.S. and Mexico.

I volunteer with EJP, helping with workshops and projects. I set up budgets and organize data to make sure things run smoothly. It feels great to give back and help people who are trying to turn their lives around. Being kind and giving back to the community is what it's all about.



Project Manager - Consulting (2024)

I led a team of seven talented individuals as we collaborated with a client specializing in motion capturing and AI technology. Our task was to provide crucial recommendations as the client prepared to venture into the US market. Taking charge, I set detailed agendas and conducted extensive research to ensure our recommendations were well-informed and strategic. Throughout the process, we maintained active engagement with the client, seeking their input and feedback to tailor our approach to their specific needs and goals.

It was a challenging yet rewarding experience that showcased the power of teamwork and thorough preparation in achieving successful outcomes.



Chief of the Debating Society - DebSoc (2022)

I have a passion for debating and exploring diverse perspectives on various topics. I find it fascinating how different approaches can be taken to address the same statement. This interest led me to join the debate society at my university, where I dedicated two years to honing my skills.

Recognizing my commitment and abilities, I was later appointed as the Chief of the Debating Society. In this role, I organized and managed numerous debating competitions, ensuring smooth and fair proceedings. Alongside my team, I proudly represented our college in various nationwide debating events, where we showcased our expertise and flexibility in tackling a wide range of topics. Through these experiences, I not only refined my own debating techniques but also developed a comprehensive understanding of different debate formats and subjects.



Creative Head of the Maths Club - Emfinity (2022)

My passion for mathematics and the desire to make it more enjoyable led me to join the mathematics club at university. As a member, I took on the role of managing a team of five dedicated individuals. Our mission was to infuse creativity and fun into the world of mathematics. Through our collaborative efforts, we crafted engaging posts and designs, bringing to life some of the most intriguing and entertaining math problems. It was a rewarding experience where I not only shared my love for math but also fostered a sense of excitement and curiosity among others.



Captain - Athletics and Throwball Team (2021- 2022)

During my bachelors, I was the captain of the Girls' athletics and Throwball team for 2 consecutive years.



Volunteer - National NGO - U&I (2020)

I believe education is about more than just learning and getting a degree; it's about caring for each other and our community. That's why I chose to volunteer at the NGO—to give back and make a difference.

I Volunteered at a NGO called U&I. Here, I taught Mathematics to kids who didn't have much. We also collected money to help them. We raised $8,405! But it wasn't just about numbers. I made sure to chat with the kids and make them feel comfortable. We talked about their day and what they liked. I didn't just teach math, I cared about how they felt. We even picked what games they wanted to play. By the end of the year, we felt like a little family. It was a really special experience.



Team Captain - Inter-college Hackathon (2019)

I led a team of 6 fellow mates for a Hackathon where more than 80 colleges participated. Our team ended up winning the first position.

Topic for Hackathon: Parking Spot Finder With the increasing population and subsequent rise in the use of vehicles, it is not easy to find parking spots every day. So, We created an app to locate parking spots!
